Gold Cross with Ruby / Cruz en Oro con Rubí

Here is a Gold Cross handmade with the cuttlefish bone technique with a ruby.

These two gold crosses in 14kt,  were cast using the cuttlefish bone technique detailed with an oval and flat burins one is a representation of the holly spirit on the empty cross and the other a Celtic cross with the sign of INRI on top.

Estas dos cruces en oro 14kt  fueron hechas usando la técnica de vaciado en hueso de Jibia  detalladas usando buriles de media caña y plano. Una es una representacion del espiritu santo en la cruz vacia y la otra es una cruz celtica con el rotulo de INRI en la parte superior.

Tecnica de fundicion en hueso de sepia, chipirón, jibia. Cuttlefish bone casting technique

The following sequential is how to make the cuttlefish bone casting.
Here is how the cuttle fish bone look like before anything is done to it.Once cut in half, a sand paper number 40 is used in a block of wood to sand it even.
Next an impression is done by pressing a hard material ( selected charm to be replicated) into the bone.
Then with a very sharp knife the funnel and some apertures are made for the metal to ventilate and to fill up the cavity of the impression.
Then secure the cuttlefish bone into a fire brick with either wire or duct tape.
Now put your silver or gold in the melting dish add borax and with your melting torch start melting the the metal.As soon the metal is melted pour it into the mold. With a copper tweezers pick up the piece and put it into the pickle to be cleaned and then in to the bowl of water to rinse off the acid . Cut the excess silver or Gold with a hacksaw and do all finishing.Now you have your jewelry piece done!

En la siguiente secuencia se podrá ver como se hace la fundición en hueso de jibia.
Aquí se puede apreciar como se ve el hueso de jibia antes de hacer nada con el.
Una vez este se ha cortado en dos mitades se usa una lija numero 40 en un bloque de madera para que la superficie este plana.Ahora haga una impresión en el hueso con cualquier material que sea duro.
Una vez la impresión este hecha con una navaja bien afilada se hace embudo y unas indiciones para que el metal respire.
Luego se asegura el molde en un ladrillo a prueba de fuego este se puede asegurar con cinta adhesiva o alambre.Ahora se pone la Plata o el Oro en un crisol y se le añade bórax y se derrite con una antorcha.
Luego se vierte el metal ya derretido en el molde.Retira la pieza y se pone en el ácido y luego en el agua.Ahora ya esta lista para remover el exceso de metal con una segeta y se le da su respectivo acabado.
